July is the warmest, with an average high of 88°F and low of 70°F; January is the coolest, at 41°F and 26°F. Floods, thunderstorm wind and lightning near Mount Royal
Since 1996, the National Weather Service has logged 658 flood, rain, thunderstorm wind and lightning events that began within 10 miles of Mount Royal: 427 thunderstorm wind reports, 136 flash floods, 54 floods, 21 lightning strikes and 20 heavy rain events. They killed 4 people and injured 27, and the NWS estimated $30.4 million in property and crop damage. The strongest thunderstorm gust on record here was 94 mph, on June 18, 2000. July has had the most flash floods, 42 of 136. Of the 455 New Jersey cities on this site with a flash flood on record, 285 have had fewer than Mount Royal.
