HURDAT2 tracks Irma for 15 days, from August 30, 2017 to September 13, 2017. Its first position, at 16.1°N 26.9°W, records it as a tropical depression; its last, at 36.8°N 90.1°W, as a low. It reached tropical-storm strength on August 30, hurricane strength on August 31 and major-hurricane strength on September 1. Its peak was 178 mph (155 knots), Category 5, on September 5, and its lowest central pressure was 914 millibars on September 6. It spent about 11 days at hurricane strength. HURDAT2 marks 2 landfalls within 50 miles of a US city on this site; they were on September 10 at 132 mph (Category 4), 3 miles from Summerland Key, FL; on September 10 at 115 mph (Category 3), 3 miles from Marco Island, FL. It has 5 more landfalls in the record farther from the cities here. Its centre passed within 75 miles of 420 US cities, in 4 states and territories, most in Florida (251) and Georgia (95), between September 6 and September 12. The strongest pass was 173 mph (Category 5) 41 miles from Loiza, PR; the centre came closest to Plant City, FL, less than a mile away. 171 of the cities had it at hurricane strength at the closest point, 68 at major-hurricane strength. It reached more US cities than 77% of the 737 storms on this site, and more than any other storm of 2017 on this site.
